Tollbridge Used Car Centre

Brimington Road North, Chesterfield S41 9AP, UK – 01246 261761

Lovely guys, very genuine and helpful. I don't think you could really get better service. Nothing was too much trouble. They even helped me with the V5 and taxing it! They weren't pushy at all, they let me and a family member test drive the car and were very knowledgeable. There was no sales pitch whatsoever, just an honest review of the car. Further, the car I bought was immaculate inside and out! I would definitely recommend them!

Love the car and amazing customer care, highly recommended and would use again. The guys made the whole process easy and stress free, thank you

I am one very happy lady after my trip to Chesterfield motor sales. I was greeted by a lovely guy called Tim who helped me pick the right van for me it was my first time buying a van so was a little nervous but Tim made everything very straight forward.Excellent customer service throughout and the showroom is immaculate. Over the moon with my Van thanks again Tim :)

Straight talking honest car people what more can you ask for communication was great they called me when they said they would. Amazing selection of cars available there and a non push approach to sales is always a warm welcome. Would definitely recommend.

Templar Cars

Unit 5, Csg Business Park, Pond St, Chesterfield S40 2LE, UK – 01246 277593

A superb car buying experience! On arrival at the showroom we were greeted by Phil and both cars we'd asked to see were parked in readiness for viewing and test drives, both immaculately presented. We felt under no pressure whatsoever and we were given as much time (and coffee) as we needed. After a long time choosing, we secured the purchase with Andy, who at all times was incredibly helpful, honest and a pleasure to do business with. After driving for a while, we noticed a couple of issues which could only be detected with use and these were resolved immediately by Gary and Andy without question. When the time comes to change this car, I will not spend hours trawling the internet, I'll get in touch with Templar Cars instead! Would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you, gentlemen.

Brilliant.... Bought my wifes Silver fiesta 06 plate it had done 87 thousand and had had the cam belt and water pump changed. Full service history and mot... really friendly but not in your face type people. Plenty of good reviews. Would buy from again. Love the car 4 months later still going strong

Tips on buying a used car – Key questions answered ...

What are you rights when your buy a used car?
The Citizen's Advice Bureau have an excellent and comprehensive section on their website. If you find something wrong after purchasing a used car It’s worth knowing that you’ll still have legal rights even if you don’t do the proper checks. If there’s something wrong with your used car you may have a legal right to a repair or some or all of your money back.

Make sure a trader is trustworthy
If you’re buying from a trader look for an established firm with links to trade associations like the Retail Motor Industry Federation or a sign that says they follow The Motor Ombudsman's code of practice look for a trader with cars inspected by an independent engineer or motoring organisations.

Buying from an auction
Auctions are the riskiest way of buying a used car as you probably won’t have the legal protection that you have buying through a trader. Ensure that you read the auction house’s T and Cs before buying a car.

Check a car’s history

Check the car’s details with the DVLA
  • Ask the seller for the car’s registration number
  • MOT test number
  • mileage
  • make and model
Use the DVLA’s free online vehicle information checker to make sure what the seller tells you matches the DVLA’s records.

Check the MOT and history
You should check that MOT tests have been done regularly throughout the car’s history. Check this on GOV.UK. This is a free service.

Get a private history check.
These will cost up to £20 – but they can be worth it! This will give you valuable information about serious problems the car might have including if:
the car has been stolen
the seller still owes money on the car
the car has been in a serious accident
the car is showing the correct mileage
the car has been written off

Inspect the car and take a test drive
You should arrange to view the car in daylight, preferably when it’s dry - it’s harder to spot damage to the car if it’s wet. It’s a good idea to meet at a private seller’s house so that if something goes wrong after you’ve bought the car, you’ll have a record of their address.

The AA has a useful checklist for what to look out for when inspecting a used car and its paperwork. Make sure you ask about the car’s service history.

Always take the car for a test drive.
Drive for at least 15 minutes on different types of road. The AA has a checklist for what to look out for when taking a test drive. If you’re still not sure - get an independent report
However, you can go a step further and get an independent report on the car. This will give you detailed information about the car’s condition and will cost around £100 to £200 an are available from motoring organisations like the AA
